Simple Steps To Stop Smoking Naturally

by Robert Franklin

Anyone who smokes feels the drain that it has on their wallets and their energy, even their health suffers. Medical problems often plague smokers. For instance, lung cancer is closely related to smoking. Other potential impacts of smoking may include discolored teeth, added wrinkles, foul smelling breath, and not having any energy to do anything.
What most smokers do not know is it is possible to stop smoking using natural means.

The foremost thing which is necessary for a smoker to quit smoking is his determination to do so. For chain-smokers smoking is both an addiction and habit. Habits are literally ingrained into our brains, into our neural pathways. Quitting smoking requires breaking the old habits and forming new ones, creating new neural pathways. The only way to do this is determination and persistence. Only then, with gradually following the new habits, can the years of bad habits be wiped away.

It is really very difficult to get rid of an addiction like smoking on your own. But with the help of a support group it can be made easier. Your support network can be ex- smokers or non-smokers along with family and friends. It can be professional help or even your doctor. Having an understand partner there to help you stay the course can help keep you going and quit smoking for good.

Many people who no longer smoke say it's not a good idea to slowly stop smoking by decreasing the amount of cigarettes. Why? It makes it very difficult. However, if you make it your goal to not smoke at all each day you'll realize that you can make it through the day and each passing day will become easier.

When you decide to stop smoking, throw away all the cigarettes in your house and make sure not to buy new ones. Avoid social situations in which you will be compelled to smoke. Drink a lot of water and exercise daily to help you with the withdrawal phase.

The cravings and associated symptoms caused by withdrawal from nicotine are hard to tolerate. When these cravings get strong, you can walk around outside or have a chat with a friend over the phone until the cravings subside. You can also try things like reading a book or watching a movie. Some people enjoy meditating or praying to help calm the cravings while trying to stop smoking naturally.

Some people feel awkward without a cigarette in their mouth and chew gum while quitting smoking to quell the cravings. Others meditate or take long walks. It does not matter what you do, as long as it isn't smoking again.

It is possible to stop smoking naturally. With the help of some friends, along with your willpower, you can be successful. After getting over the initial withdrawal symptoms, you can overcome this difficult task of quitting smoking and be on the road to becoming a healthier, happier you.
